9th Congressional Civil Rights Pilgrimage to Alabama

"During The Faith & Politics Institute Pilgrimage to Alabama, I try to lead my congressional friends to sacred ground where ordinary people with extraordinary vision sacrificed for our democracy and changed this nation forever. When we make this journey to Montgomery, Birmingham, and Selma, we put politics aside to pay tribute to some great Americans who, by sitting down, stood up for the cause of civil rights and social justice. We join together to commemorate the central purpose of the struggle for civil rights in this country, to help build an all-inclusive society based on simple justice that values the dignity and the worth of every individual, what we in the movement called the Beloved Community, a nation at peace with itself."
--Rep. John Lewis
Bob Zellner, "one of the ordinary people with extraordinary vision who stood up for the cause of civil rights and social justice", has participated as a Civil Rights Luminary in the past several years' Faith & Politics Institute's Annual Pilgrimages to Civil Rights Memorials in the South. In 2005 Robin Smith, award winning documentarian, filmed the pilgrimage to Alabama led by Rep John Lewis. This award winning doumentary, "Come Walk In My Shoes" featured Bob as one of the participants. The public school premier of the film was in February 2008 at Southampton High School, Southampton, NY and was followed by round table discussions with Bob Zellner, Robin Smith and students from grades 9 12. "Come Walk In My Shoes" is being shown periodically on PBS through 2010.
